Plečnik’s Mortuary

Aha, on the other side of the wall we can already see Plečnik’s Mortuarys.

Let’s open the doors and enter.

The architect Jože Plečnik, (some of his architectural works have been part of the UNESCO world cultural heritage since 2021), together with his student Anton Biten, created a geometrically designed cemetery with a mortuary.

Architectural style resembles the National University Library in Ljubljana. The building has a gable roof supported by stone and brick columns; old tombstones are built into the pilasters.

The cemetery itself is to be planted with 12 trees to symbolise eternity. Each tree would bloom for one month.
